BLM (Bureau of Land Management) Campsite, North of Lake Havasu

Wednesday, January 29 and Thursday, January 30, 2014

After leaving our idyllic site at La Paz, the first stop was at the Parker Dam, then a quick hike at the Bill Williams River National Wildlife Refuge and later took in the very touristy town of Lake Havasu City to see the famous London Bridge. It is the original bridge brought over brick by brick from London England in 1968. The nursery rhyme, 'London Brigde is falling down' stemmed from this bridge. It is a destination resort town where beach and watersports are the highlights. It felt like a perfect summer day, with the blossoms and boaters out. Hard to believe it’s only the end of January. Unusually high temps. here. Headed north for 7 miles to the BLM land for our next two night free stay. There were about 20 other RVs there with plenty of room for all. Amazing views of mountains all around.

Parker Dam, one of many along the Colorado River

A great view

A nice little hike to start the day

Fishing is big here and so is observing the many species of birds

Quite the visitor centre

Original plaque

Bridge was moved here brick by brick and then completed in 1971

You have many friends if you have food

The bridge is the main draw for tourism in Lake Havasu city.

It feels and looks like spring, but it's only the end of January.

Blossoms and palms

Interesting bark or lack there of

Water sports galore on Lake Havasu

A North Carolina lighthouse replica, 1/8th the size

This could be a Carribean setting!

Arial activity too

Built by T. Potter & Sons in England

Quite the accomadations

A little too picture perfect and busy for us

Plenty of boating tours offered

Walk back across the bridge and we're on our way

This is more our style. This BLM site is only 7 miles north of Lake Havasu city and had about 20 other campers there.
Stayed two nights at this free site and enjoyed every minute. Mountains all around

Seems like we're being watched, and we were....

.... by this long-horned sheep.

Can you still spot him?

Relaxing as the sun sets on another super day

It was very quiet, even with all the RVs there.

Layers of colours

End of the day

He was there to say good-morning.

View of the site as we climbed to the spot where we saw the sheep. They sure are more agile than we are!

Getting higher, slowly but surely

Fish-hook cactus

Fabulous view of the valley below, can see for miles in all directions

You can do it!

Reaching the top to one side....

....and scrambling down the other. Made a few phone call while we had reception up there.

Almost blood-red in colour

We hiked all around this mountain peak, which too us 2 and-a-half hours and probably 4 miles total. Sure felt the
muscles the next day.

Every sunset is another light show
