Brazos Bend State Park to Galveston Island State Park, Texas

Monday, March 10 to Tuesday, March 11, 2014

The Monday was a long travel day to make our way mainly across Texas to get closer to the Gulf of Mexico. We arrived at Brazos Bend State Park late in the afternoon only to find it is full. The first time on our trip that we couldn't get a site. We opted to stay in the overflow section, mainly a parking lot and did enjoy the quiet it provided. After the BBQ, the lights were out rather quickly. The next day before leaving we hiked several trails and were very impressed by the bird, alligator and other wildlife the park had to offer. Thought of spending another night if we could get a spot, but no such luck. Their Spring Break is in full swing. Left after lunch and made our way to the Galveston Island State Park on the gulf. Great site, but was it ever windy.

Comfortable spot for the night.

It was a very well maintained park, with plenty of hiking trails and lots of water.

These boys were all around the lakes and came up on the hiking trails.

We saw about 8 gators from this pier.

Sneaking up on something.

Not to be taken lightly. They were all around in the ponds and small lakes.

Why do they always seem like they're smiling?

We could hear bellowing coming from the male gators but it was hard to spot them in these swamp sections.

The boys and their machines on the gulf beach.

There were miles and miles of beach that can be driven in a vehicle.

We thought of spending the night here, but it was very windy and cool, besides, it was too early in the day
to stop.

It was nice for have a grassy site. The area is just full of big homes, probably just summer residences.
Every thing here had to be rebuilt after the 2008 hurricane. Still very windy here.

Sunset on the inner bay.
