Travels on sailboat Mokum

Newfoundland's St. John's Harbour. We were invited to take part in the Royal Newfoundland Yacht Club race. The captain, Jan Pieter, likes to cut it close. We could have reached out and touched the tires.

We finished seconds after the crew on "Hell Hound" reached the finish marker, giving us 4th place.

Houses built into the hillside, overlooking the harbour entrance.

The sign says it all.

The narrow trail winds it's way along the coast up to Signal Hill, with St. John's harbour in the background.

Another rest stop on the rugged trail, with Signal Hill behind Jan Pieter.

Canons from the past, guard the entrance to St. John's harbour.

Colourful mailboxes decorate many homes.

Time to get the encrusted salt water off the boat.

Maybe a few more cans of curry before we go?

The Navy frigate, HMCS St. John's, leaves for fishing patrol duty on the Grand Banks.

Andre Johansen and Marita Hermansen from their 30 foot Pacific sailboat Hugo Grotius. The couple left their homeport of Oslo, Norway, July 2006.

Jan Pietre, David, Erik and Martin, are eager to start the Atlantic crossing. The weather certainly proved challenging during their trip.
